April 28, 2010 - Evansville, IN & Canonsburg, PA – NABCO, Inc. today announced that the Evansville Police Department has deployed a truck-mounted Total Containment Vessel (TCV) to help counter chemical, biological, and explosive threats to the community and provide regional response capabilities for homeland security agencies covering southern Indiana.
“The NABCO containment vessel provides our department and the entire region with state-of-the art response capabilities,” said Sergeant Steve Evans, Commander of the department’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Squad. “This solution strengthens the preparedness of our response team and is a critical tool for assisting the Department of Homeland Security and other first responders who cooperate to ensure public safety in our area.”
Funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the NABCO 42-GT-SCS TCV provides maximum stand-off distances for public safety personnel and can fully contain a biological or chemical hazard within an improvised explosive device, even after detonation, allowing for more comprehensive consequence management capabilities.
The TCV features a sampling system to identify hazardous agents and may be paired with a decontamination system. Evansville’s TCV is custom mounted on a 2009 Ford F-550 chassis capable of responding to threats across 12 counties in the southern part of the state.
The department is one of hundreds of law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and around the world that rely on NABCO solutions to safeguard personnel, facilities, communities and the environment against chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) threats.
“We are proud to provide this capability for the City of Evansville and the first responders who keep the community safe,” said NABCO CEO Frank Tobin. “The NABCO containment vessel will also help homeland security officials in the surrounding area counter a variety of modern-day threats.”
